Operetta performance showcases cheo

Update: June, 11/2015 - 10:19
HA NOI  (VNS) — L'Espace will stage a cheo (traditional opera) performance entitled To Nu Dan Ca (literally means "the young ladies sing folk songs") from 8pm this Saturday.

Born in the 10th century, cheo was developed in the rural areas of the Red River Delta. The operetta highlights the art form's connections with old songs, lullabies and rhythms.

Painter Ly Truc Son, who is presenting his paintings on Xuy Van (Van the Mad) – a famous female character of Vietnamese cheo theatre – at L'Espace, will design the stage for the operetta.

Tickets cost VND160,000, or VND80,000 for L'Espace members and students. — VNS
