QUANG BINH (VNS) — The general museum of the central Quang Binh Province yesterday announced the discovery of a lithophone.

Farmer Pham Dinh Huyen was digging in his garden in Cu Nam Commune in the province's Bo Trach District, when he found 20 unique rock pieces 2m below the surface. The rocks produced musical sounds when Huyen hit them with a hammer.

Several lithophone sets have been found in the northern-central Phu Yen Province and Central Highlands region.

The museum officials said the rocks found in Quang Binh were parts of a lithophone. Museum Director Nguyen Anh Tuan said lithophones have rarely been found in Quang Binh.

He said the museum was working with Huyen for his voluntary donation of the newly discovered lithophone to the museum. The rocks are currently in Huyen's home. — VNS
