HCM CITY (VNS) — The French group Thylacine will present an electro music concert at Cargo Bar in HCM City next Wednesday, iLL Beats Saigon and the French Institute in HCM City have announced.

Band member William Rene was initially a saxophonist but then turned to electro music described as "a light and attractive style". The band is named after an extinct wolflike carnivorous marsupial of Tasmania.

Their latest album titled Blend includes four songs composed between the summer 2013 and spring 2014.

"Each work is imbued with a unique flavour and reveals the cross-influence of the ‘clapping music' of Steve Reich, jazz experiments of John Zorn, and triphop of Massive Attack," a press release from the French Institute in HCM City and iLL Beats Saigon said.

The concert will also feature the performance of three well-known Vietnamese DJs, Jase Nguyen of HCM City, DJ Jin of Hai Phong, and DJ Duy Tuan of Ha Noi.

Nguyen has performed in front of 15,000 people in France and shared the stage with international bands like Daedalus, Major Lazer and Gaslamp Killer.

With the harmony of flex funk, hip hop and dubstep, sometimes with Vietnamese traditional music-inspired rock, since 2007, Nguyen and his band - The Beats Saigon – have brought many vibrant musical nights to the city.

Jin found his path as a DJ who loves to spin Hip Hop, scratching and beat-juggling, while Tuan's main genres are Funky, Disco, Hiphop Old School, House, Dubstep, Bass, and Trap.

Tickets, priced at VND160,000 (50 per cent discount for students), are available at www.ticketbox.vn . — VNS
