HCM CITY (VNS)– Four-member French band Faycal Salhi will offer a new experience to HCM City music fans next month with its brand of modern jazz songs infused with Arab-Andalusian rhythms and tones.
Organised by the French Institute in Viet Nam and Idecaf, the concert will take place at the latter's theatre on September 12.
Fayçal Salhi, the founder of the group, was born and grew up in Algeria in a family of musicians. But the rural melodies of Andalusia were imprinted in Salhi since early childhood, becoming his signature style along with the ancient lute-like oud.
He moved to France at 11, and started learning music by himself at 18.
At the concert, he will play the oud as the quartet combines it with modern western instruments like the saxophone and contrabass.
After his two first albums Sur les Routes de l'Orient (On the Routes of the Orient) and Timgad (released by Dam Music), Salhi recorded the album Elwene with his quartet and released it in 2011.
He composed the music for the movie La Maison Jaune (The Yellow House), winning several awards.
Tickets for the concert are are available at Idecaf, 28 Le Thanh Ton Street, District 1. — VNS
