HA NOI (VNS)– The South East Asian Youth Chamber Orchestra will hold its debut performance in Viet Nam next Monday at the Viet Nam National Academy of Music.
Founded in August 2012 on the initiative of the Goethe-Institut Southeast Asia, the 26-member group consists of young musicians from Thailand, Viet Nam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia.
The musicians, who were chosen at auditions, come together twice a year at a summer school at Mahidol College in Salaya, Thailand.
Under the direction of German conductor Nicolas Pasquet, they rehearse a concert programme that is presented first in Thailand and then in other countries.
The project is about high quality music, but also about a common musical spirit.
On Monday, the orchestra will perform several classical music pieces, including Violin Concerto in A-Major by Mozart, String Symphony in H-Minor by Mendelssohn, and Symphony No 5 in B-Major by Schubert.
German violin soloist Tobias Feldmann will also perform.
The concert will start at 8pm at 77 Hao Nam Street. Entry will be free. – VNS
