HCM CITY (VNS)  — Artists from the HCM City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) and others will perform at a chamber music concert tonight.

The evening will begin with a composition by Franz Liszt, the 19th century Hungarian pianist and composer who is known for his masterpieces meant for literature.

Pianist Joo Eun Young will perform Franz's Transcendental Etude No 4 Mazeppa, which was inspired by Victor Hugo's dramatically morbid poem named Mazeppa.

Joo, who graduated from the Vienna Music Conservatory in Austria in 2000, later went to the Gnessin Music Institute in Moscow.

Joo, who released her debut album in 2008, works as a lecturer at the HCM City Music Conservatory.

She will then be joined by clarinetist Dao Nhat Quang, Pianist Ly Giai Hoa and her younger colleague, violinist Tang Thanh Nam.

Hoa and Nguyen Tan Anh will perform Beethoven's Sonata No 1 in F Major for cello & piano.

A graduate of the Shanghai Music Conservatory, Hoa has performed at various venues at home and in Asian and European countries.

The second part of the programme will feature some young HBSO artists.

The concert opens at 8pm at the HCM City Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, District 1. —VNS
