HA NOI (VNS)— Figurines of four eminent Vietnamese generals, namely Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Quoc Tuan, Nguyen Hue and Vo Nguyen Giap, were unveiled to the public during a ceremony in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The figurines are part of a project titled Viet Nam's Eminent Generals jointly organised by Heritage Inns and Circle Group in collaboration with the Viet Nam History Association and UNESCO.

They aim to commemorate the legendary generals in an effort to recognise thousands who have served in Viet Nam's 4000-year history.

Large statues of Tran Quoc Tuan and Nguyen Hue already stand in Nam Dinh and Ha Noi, and were used to model the smaller duplicates.

According to the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vuong Duy Bien, the production of the statues as special gifts will cement the importance of the national heroes in daily life.

The samples of Ly Thuong Kiet and General Vo Nguyen Giap have already been shown to experts and the public for review. They are scheduled for an official introduction on the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory in May 2014.

The figurines will be made from different materials, including bronze, stone and plaster, while sculptors are reportedly working to ensure that the statues resemble their real life counterparts and convey the spirit of the illustrious quartet. — VNS
