HCM CITY (VNS)—The performing arts company Bangarra of Australia received a rapturous reception at the HCM City Opera House on Wednesday night.

Choreographed by Stephen Page and Frances Rings, Spirit, performed by indigenous dancers, featured treasured moments from Bangarra's internationally acclaimed repertoire.

Spirit is a celebration of the resilience of indigenous culture, from the last breath of sunset to the first finger-light of dawn.

"Featuring Kathy Balngayngu Marika, a senior woman from Yirrkala, North East Amhem, Spirit weaves storytelling, dance, theatre and music into an inspirational theatrical experience," according to materials provided by the Australian Consulate.

The Bangarra Dance Theatre performed in Viet Nam as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic relations between Australia and Viet Nam.

Bangarra's executive director, Catherine Baldwin, said: "Bangarra is a world-class performing ensemble with unique content that draws on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander idioms. We are inspired by the spirit of this land and its peoples."
