HA NOI (VNS)— After spending almost her entire time abroad, Vietnamese-German artist Nini Huong Nguyen has returned to her homeland to express her thoughts on life in an exhibit in Ha Noi.

The exhibit, Is Life, shows 25 abstract paintings and two sculptures that the artist brought from Germany. Through these works, the 25-year-old artist expresses her feelings about the unstoppable circle of life.

She feels, she says, that people tend to live fast, and to focus on daily concerns about food and money. Her works depict richer sentiments: happiness, loneliness, sadness, nostalgia.

"I was very touched to get the chance to organise my very first exhibition in my homeland, Viet Nam," says Nini. "I've never forgotten my origins, and always hoped to use what I learned abroad to benefit the country."

The artist has spent much of her life in Europe. After graduating from ESMOS International Fashion University and Academy of Art in Munich, Germany, she achieved European fame as not only a painter, but also a professional model and fashion designer.

Her time in Europe helped her develop a unique artistic style, both Oriental and Western. She uses simple techniques to create works with deep philosophical implications.

"The works of Nini Huong Nguyen combine the complexity and the simplicity of human culture," Vi Kien Thanh, head of the Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said at the show's opening ceremony.

The exhibition will run until next Tuesday at the Viet Nam National Museum of Fine Arts, at 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ha Noi. — VNS
