HUE (VNS)– The Thua Thien-Hue People's Committee has asked cultural agencies and the Hue City administration to prepare documents for recognising Mieu Am Hon (Shrine for the Death) as a national historic relic.
The 717sq.m altar, currently located on Ong Ich Khiem Street in Hue City's Thuan Hoa Ward, will be restored to perform rituals, provincial authorities said.
The site was built in 1894 during the reign of Emperor Thanh Thai to pay tribute to soldiers and people who laid down their lives in the battle to protect Hue Citadel in 1885.
The soul worship ritual, which was conducted on the 23rd day of the fifth lunar month until 1945, was one of the most important rituals that Hue residents conducted to worship soldiers and other people who sacrified their lives for the country. — VNS
