Students visit Thailand

Update: July, 20/2012 - 09:51

HCM CITY — A group of 15 Vietnamese citizens including ten students of the Thai language at the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities began a week-long trip by road to Thailand yesterday.

They are accompanied on the trip by Natthakarn Sriyaphan, the Consulate General of Thailand in HCM City's consul of culture, her spouse and journalists. Students will get ample opportunity to practise speaking in Thai because it will be the primary language of communication during the trip.

The trip is part of the newly launched Getting to Know Thailand programme, which aims to create opportunities for Vietnamese youth and local media to learn about the neighbouring king-dom's diverse culture and history through carefully designed short-term visits.

All participants will travel to Thailand by coach along the Southern Economic Corridor route that links countries of ASEAN's sub-region together.

Participants will visit Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia after they leave Moc Bai Bavet border check point.

During their stay in Thailand, they will visit sites of interest in Bangkok and the provinces of Ayutthaya and Chonburi as well as other popular destinations in the country.

Panpimon Suwannapongse, consul general of Thailand in HCM City, said the programme offered a very interesting route for Vietnamese people to travel to Thailand.

He said the programme would be expanded to include a larger number of participants in the future so that more Vietnamese had the opportunity to learn about Thailand.

Apart from popular destinations, the participants in the programme will also be invited to the area that suffered serious flooding last year, and see how things have returned to normal, he said.

Sriyaphan said that the route would be promoted as a tourism service to bring more Vietnamese tourists to Cambodia and Thailand in the near future. All expenses during the trip, which ends on July 25, are covered by the Thai Government. — VNS
