DA NANG — The Vietnamese team at this year's Da Nang International Fireworks Competition are all set to light up the night sky.
Team captain Bui Chi Duc said 5,300 individual fireworks had been selected for a 23-minute show at the annual competition, which runs from April 29 to 30.
Duc said he had prepared a computer simulation of the team's planned fireworks show, which will light up the sky above the Han River.
"We have been working hard to select suitable fireworks from abroad," said Duc. "Each firework must match the show's musical score and use light and colours in a creative way.
"The team has tested the computer simulation and sent a file to the organising committee for approval last week."
The team's fireworks demonstration will be based on ballads written by some of Viet Nam's most famous composers.
Duc said the performance must also reflect this year's theme of Colourful Da Nang.
"This year will be a tough competition for us because all four rivals are former champions of previous competitions, including Canada, France, China and Italy," he said.
"We have gained experience from four competitions and are eager to launch our best fireworks show yet to kick off the summer holiday season."
He added the team have to portray the beauty and development of the country as well as Da Nang City with music and lights only.
As scheduled, the team will install its launching pad at the Han River Port on the Han River bank.
Last year, the team ranked third among four competitors.
According to festival's organising committee, the city will host about 400,000 tourists during the fireworks competition.
A 16,000-seat stage has been set up on the other side of the Han River, which is opposite the city's main road of Bach Dang. –— VNS
