Concert features Vietnamese and Filipino artists

HA NOI – Vietnamese and Filipino musicians will perform tonight at the Ha Noi Opera House in a concert featuring both classical and modern pieces by Mendelssohn, Puccini and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Pianist Raul Sunico and violinist Bui Cong Duy will open the concert their renditions of Meditation, Spanish Dance, Concerto for Violin and Rhapsody in Blue, among others.

Vocalists will take the stage after intermission, including sopranos Rachelle Gerodias and Joanna Ampil from the Philippines and Vietnamese tenor Duc Tuan.

The artists will sing extracts from musical favourites La Boheme, West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera. Lesser known pieces will also be highlighted in the show, such as As If We Never Said Goodbye and One Day I'll Fly Away by Filipino Gerard Salonga and Love Song by Vietnamese Hoang Viet.

The concert will close with an extract from American composer Mitch Leigh's Man of La Mancha entitled Impossible Dream performed by all the artists.

Conductor Honna Tetsuji will lead the Viet Nam National Symphony Orchestra. The concert will begin at 8pm. -- VNS
