Ca Mau to build island ecotourism area

Update: June, 18/2012 - 11:52

CA MAU – The Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee plans to develop southern Hon Khoai island as an ecotourism site at a cost of VND3,000 billion (US$143 million).

A 561ha project is planned for the 4.2sq km island, to include restaurants, hotels, entertainment centres, resorts and beaches.

A 20km bridge costing VND1,000 million ($47,6 million) will link the wild and yet untouched island to the mainland.

Committee chairman Pham Thanh Tuoi said domestic and foreign enterprises had registered to invest in the development which was targeted to start by December. A selection process for appropriate investors was under way.

The island is in Ngoc Hien District, 14.6km from land. Nearby islands are Hon Sao, Hon Doi Moi, Hon Da Le and Hon Tuong. – VNS
