Đắk Nông official held for violating forest regulations

ĐẮK NÔNG — The People’s Procuracy in the Central Highlands province of Đắk Nông approved an arrest warrant against Chairman of the People’s Committee of Trường Xuân Commune, Phạm Quốc Thụy.

Officials of the People’s Committee of Đắk Song District also confirmed to Việt Nam News Agency that Thụy was apprehended for the violation of regulations on exploitation and management of forest products.

An initial investigation found that at the end of 2016, Thụy allowed a company to illegally log more than 0.5ha of pine forest in a protection forest along National Highway 14. More than 1,000 pine trees with a total volume of about 28cu.m had been cut.

Earlier this year, some 2ha of protection pine forest along the Hồ Chí Minh Highway in the Trường Xuân Commune had also been destroyed.

Thụy was accused of wrongdoings in managing and protecting the forest area and of not reporting the incident in time to the relevant agency.

According to the People’s Committee of Đắk Song District, chairman of the People’s Committee of Nâm N’Jang Commune, Nguyễn Hữu Tầm, was also dismissed from his postlast week after a large local forest area was damaged. – VNS
