HÀ NỘI — Tropical storm Aere, with the highest wind speed of up to 90km per hour in its eye, is gaining more strength and showing unpredictable development after entering the East Sea.

The latest warning from the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said by 7am this morning, the storm was 630km northeast of the Hoàng Sa (Paracel) Archipelago. The northern part of the East Sea was very rough.

In response to the situation, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vũ Văn Tám, a member of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, yesterday afternoon sent an urgent message to relevant ministries and localities ordering them to prepare for the storm.

Coastal localities from Quảng Ninh to Khánh Hòa were told to inform all offshore vessels about the storm’s development as well as the dangerous parts of the sea. These areas would be announced according to the storm’s course, Tám said.

Rescue forces from the central level to the provincial level were ordered to be ready for emergencies, he said.

The Vietnam News Agency, the Việt Nam Television and the Voice of Việt Nam were asked to constantly broadcast news of the storm’s latest developments, so that people could actively prepare accordingly, he said. —VNS
