HÒA BÌNH — Thousands of dead fish and shrimp have been found in the upper section of Màn Stream, the main stream flowing into the Đà River in the northern Hòa Bình Province.

Local residents in Cao Phong District’s Yên Lập Commune discovered the dead fish and shrimp floating in the stream on Monday, and said the water had started to smell.

The dead fish and shrimp were floating along a few kilometres of the stream, residents said.

There were no signs of any slowdown in the mystery fish deaths, they said.

Bùi Văn Thủy, a local resident, said he found dead fish earlier on Monday.

Foul-smelling scum and foam-like bubbles floated in the water, he said.

He was in panic after finding that all fish in his pond had died.

Another local resident Lê Văn Biên also said all fish in his pond had died, and that the water had a muddy blue colour and a stench.

Such an incident has never happened since he began farming many years ago, Thủy said.

After yesterday’s heavy rain, the dead fish were still floating in the water.

The people have reported the incident to the local authorities in order to find the cause of the mass death of fish. — VNS
