COPENHAGEN – Việt Nam has proposed establishing a mechanism for investment promotion and enhancing co-operation between the State and private sector to boost green growth across the world.

The proposal was submitted by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Trần Hồng Hà, leading the Vietnamese delegation at the two-day Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) 2016 Summit, which ended yesterday in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Hà also suggested the forum should issue detailed instructions on setting up green growth projects and seeking investment sources for city administration and the business community of member states, in compliance with international standards for financial institutions.

Sharing information related to co-ordination mechanisms under the 3GF framework and experience with running green growth projects should be encouraged, he said.

In his speech, Hà stressed that Việt Nam was committed to being an active member of the forum, working with other member States to execute initiatives chosen by the forum, and providing favourable conditions for Vietnamese ministries and businesses to join the forum.

The Vietnamese delegation attending the forum this year includes representatives of the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Planning and Investment, and Construction; the Việt Nam Chamber Commerce; and several representatives of businesses working in the recycled energy sector.

At the invitation of the prime minister of Denmark, the 3GF 2016 Summit engaged some 250 leaders from governments, corporations, international organisations and civil societies from around the world.

3GF was initiated by the Danish government in 2011 in collaboration with the Republic of Korea and Mexico. The aim of the 3GF Summit is to provide a forum to accompany and accelerate delivery of a sub-set of the Sustainable Development Goals through transformational public-private partnerships.

Discussions at the 3GF 2016 Summit, themed “A call to action”,  demonstrated how 3GF’s partnerships are crucial in the delivery of solutions for a greener future. Sessions focused on cities as drivers of green growth, the importance of establishing the right framework for promoting sustainable lifestyles, making sustainable production and consumption a reality, and financing the green transformation. The topics addressed during the summit cover cities, energy, water and food, as well as land use, the circular economy and other elements related to sustainable value chains. —VNS
