TAY NINH (VNS) — About 60,000ha of forests in the southern province of Tay Ninh are facing increased fire risk due to the prolonged hot weather and lack of rain.

A provincial forest management unit has identified five areas scattered across communes in the province that face a high risk of fire and need to be protected immediately.

In addition, the province also has more than 5,360ha of regenerated forests located close to residential areas that can burn easily.

The provincial authorities have enhanced forces to guard the key areas day and night, and to coordinate with other related groups to control any fire that breaks out.

There has not been any forest fire since the beginning of the dry season, thanks to good preventive measures, said Ta Van Dao, deputy director of the province's agriculture and rural development department. — VNS
