QUANG NGAI (VNS)— Central Quang Ngai province will plant more than 1,400 hectares of riverhead protective forest using nearly VND30 billion (US$1.4 million) provided by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

The funding will be used in four districts to restore and conserve biodiversity, improve the livelihood of the local community and support poverty reduction in mountainous areas.

It also aims to improve the capacity of local authorities and forest owners as part of a project to recover and sustainably manage protective forest using an official development assistance (ODA) loan from the Japanese government.

The US$13.6 million project runs from 2012 to 2020. Nearly $12 million is an ODA loan, while the remainder comes from the province's reciprocal capital. — VNS
