NGHE AN (VNS)— The central province of Nghe An has suspended 13 companies from mining activities and revoked two mining licenses, provincial authorities said on Tuesday.
Illegal mineral tapping in the province has increased since early this year, especially in the province's mountainous districts.
The violations led to loss of minerals and forestland and environmental destruction, as well as increasing the risk of mine collapse – threatening miners' lives.
Negligent commune and district leaders are among major causes of the problem, according to the provincial Natural Resources and Environment Department. — VNS
