AN GIANG (VNS)- Southern An Giang Province has close forest gates and denied all access to prevent fire.

The move was made in response to prolonged hot and dry weather which has put the province at the highest warning level of forest fires.

The provincial weather forecasters predict longer and more severe hot weather.

Forestry managers have assigned security guards around the clock to police the closure, while fire fighting equipment has been prepared.

Forests cover a total area of 12,458ha of An Giang's 17,000ha forestry land. More than 7,300ha forest are at the highest forest fire warning level, mostly in Tinh Bien and Tri Ton districts and Chau Doc town. - VNS
