CAN THO — The French Embassy in Viet Nam and local authorities in Can Tho held a ceremony on Wednesday to officially open 12 hydro-meteorological observation stations located along the Mekong River in the southern delta and the Central Highlands.
Financed by the French Development Agency and the French Global Environment Fund, these stations are part of a larger project that will help the Mekong River Commission (MRC) and local experts observe hydro-meteorological changes on the Mekong River.
The aim of the project is to provide a hydro-meteorological system with high reliability that can monitor the lower sections of the Mekong River basin.
The MRC is an inter-governmental river-basin organisation that coordinates sustainable management and development of water and related resources for its four member countries, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Viet Nam. — VNS
