Does driving a Mercedes-Benz make you a better golfer

Update: March, 06/2013 - 00:00

HCM CITY (VNS) — There has been no study that either supports or denies this claim. But by owning a Mercedes car and playing golf, owners are guaranteed world-class prizes and a money-can't-buy golfing experience in the world's largest corporate golf championship: The MercedesTrophy.

Established 23 years ago, the MercedesTrophy has quickly become one of the world's most prestigious corporate golf tournaments. Today, it is played by a staggering 65,000 avid golfers in over 65 countries, and inspires participants around the world to raise the bar while aiming for glory. Viet Nam fields a top number of players, accounting for nearly one tenth of the golfers. With over 6,000 golfers participating this year, it represents an increase of nearly 30 per cent compared to the previous season. Golfers who are distinguished achievers from all walks of life understand that: "In Viet Nam, you run a company better if you play golf". More than 60 per cent of the golfers in the series are owners or directors of companies. MercedesTrophy is proven to be an excellent platform, not only for those who share a distinct passion for golf but also for unique opportunities to socialize and interact with fellow Mercedes-Benz owners of similar socio-economic background.

Besides the luxury all-expenses-prize trips to Scotland, Australia and Germany, the MercedesTrophy last year gave Vietnam's golfers 50 opportunities to win the luxury cars with just a single magical swing of the golf club. The chance of an average golfer of winning a "hole in one" is 1 in 12,500. (Hole in one is when a golfer hits the ball directly from the tee into the cup with one shot. Hole in ones are extremely rare, and while it depends largely on the golfer's skill, there is often also a great element of luck involved, although skill definitely increases the probability.) Nevertheless, one GLK, one C-Class and two E-Class were won in just the last year's season, making 2012 the first time that four golfers achieved the feat to drive home their prized Mercedes cars.

The best seven out of the 6,000 participating golfers in the last Country Final were awarded with an all expenses paid business class flight and advanced with the brand's highest standards to the Asian Final on Australia's Gold Coast in August of last year while an additional five won trips to the UK to watch the prestigious major "The Open". The best player from each country made it all the way to the World Final in Stuttgart, Germany, where a total of 33 amateur teams from all over the world teed off.

This type of golfing exposure is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and is an ideal trip for any golfer. "It was a superb trip from start to finish, the professional preparation of the host was incredible, we did not want wish for anything else," said Huynh Viet Thuong, a 9-handicapper, who is a director of a well-known communication corporation in Viet Nam. "The highlight was the Mercedes-AMG test drives with the latest car models that we have never experienced in Viet Nam. These include the SLS coupe, the SL-Class under the instruction of professional race car drivers. The experience was truly exclusive and out of ordinary", he said.
