HÀ NỘI — The developers of the 3.5 GW La Gan offshore wind farm project in Bình Thuận Province, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Asia Petroleum Energy and Novasia Energy, on October 28 signed two major site investigation contracts worth approximately US$5 million with two foreign companies.

The signing took place in Hà Nội in the presence of the Danish ambassador to Việt Nam, Kim Højlund Christensen, and local authorities.

They awarded a Floating LiDAR contract to AXYS Technologies, a global technology company in ocean and wind data solutions.

AXYS will engage local subcontractors like Petrosetco, the Vietnam Coast Guard and Rynan Technologies to implement the contract.

They will install advanced equipment for wind and wave measurement off the coast of Bình Thuận.

An environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) contract was awarded to NIRAS Group, a Danish company with extensive global experience in conducting environmental and social assessments for offshore wind projects.

NIRAS will closely work with several Vietnamese sub-contractors to collect data, model results and design mitigations to ensure that the project minimises possible negative environmental and social impacts and is delivered to the highest international standards.

Michael Hannibal, a partner at CIP, said understanding the characteristics of the site would be critical to the design concept and ensuring development of an offshore wind project.

“With the support of our local partners and contractors, we are confident of developing a world-class offshore wind project … in Việt Nam.”

Christensen said: “The collaborations between industry-leading international and renowned local companies will greatly contribute to knowledge transfer in the offshore wind industry of Việt Nam.”

With an estimated investment of $10 billion, the La Gan offshore wind project is set to be one of the first large offshore wind projects in Việt Nam, generating significant job opportunities and acting as a precedent to attract foreign investors to offshore wind projects. — VNS
