HẢI PHÒNG — An oil and chemical tanker with a capacity of 6,500 tonnes was delivered to a company from the Republic of Korea (RoK) in the northern port city of Hải Phòng on Monday.

The 109.45-metre-long YN GWANGYANG was designed by Asia Ship Design & Consultants Co Ltd and built by Phà Rừng Shipbuilding One-member Co Ltd in Thủy Nguyên District of Hải Phòng.

General Director of the shipbuilding company Vũ Hữu Chiến said the tanker met high standards for technology, quality and stability. He said this showed the strength of his firm.

The company – a joint venture project between the Việt Nam and Finland – was inaugurated in 1984.

It has repaired thousands of ships over the past 35 years. Phà Rừng has become a reputable firm for domestic ship owners as well as those from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, the RoK, Cuba, Greece and Belgium.

Kim Young-soo, president of BS Tanker – the owner of YN GWANGYANG, said he believed the successful building of the tanker will pave the way for the prosperous development of Việt Nam’s shipbuilding industry and RoK shipping companies in the future. — VNS
