HÀ NỘI — Viettel Media, a Viettel’s media company, launched the online movie website, Keeng Movies, in HCM City on Wednesday, and expects to earn US$50 million from the new venture by 2020.

Currently, Viettel has more than 100 million subscribers globally, of which 66 million are in Việt Nam, equivalent to 52 per cent of the Vietnamese market.

Viettel will launch Keeng Movies in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar within this year and will expand the service to seven other markets where Viettel is investing by 2020, a Viettel Media representative said.

In the long term, Keeng Movies will be introduced to developed markets, such as Europe, North America, South Korea and Japan, through cooperation with telecommunication providers as well as prestigious film producers in these markets.

Keeng Movies already has the copyright to distribute movies from global studios, such as 20th Century Fox, NBC Universal, Warner Bros, TVB, MBC and KBS. Based on 60 million subscribers of Viettel, Keeng Movies aims to reach more than two million users within a year of its launch. — VNS
