BÌNH DƯƠNG — The southern province of Bình Dương earned more than US$9.2 billion from outbound shipments in the first five months of 2018.

This marks an increase of 16.5 per cent over the same period in 2017, according to the director of the provincial People’s Committee, Nguyễn Văn Danh.

Danh said the export revenue of the foreign-invested sector reached over $7.4 billion, an increase of 18.3 per cent, while the domestic sector also bagged $1.8 billion, an increase of 9.9 per cent.

In May alone, the province’s export revenue fetched more than $2 billion, a rise of 19.6 per cent over the same period last year.

In the first five months of this year, growth was seen in the majority of Bình Dương’s export products, such as wooden products, garments and footwear.

Upturn was also recorded in major export markets, including the United States, China, South Korea, Japan and Europe.

Danh attributed the positive results to the efforts of local firms in expanding the market and improving the product quality, along with the province’s support to business operations.

The local authorities have also helped businesses to enhance the competitiveness of their products and build trademarks.

In addition to this, the province has encouraged local enterprises to apply advanced technology in production and has assisted them in capital access and human resources, Danh said.
