HÀ NỘI – Topsides weighing more than 5,000 tonnes of the gas extraction platform BK Thiên Ưng have successfully been launched by the Việt Nam-Russia joint venture Vietsovpetro.
The firm said yesterday that the BK Thiên Ưng is a super-size structure, weighing more than 15,000 tonnes. It delivers gas extracted from the Thiên Ưng and Đại Hùng fields to the mainland.
The platform is among the projects in the master plan for gas exploration in the Nam Côn Sơn Basin, which is in the southern continental shelf of Việt Nam.
BK Thiên Ưng, worth US$1 billion, is set to become operational this November. It will generate a maximum output of more than three million cu.m. of gas per day by 2019.
The project, built over more than two years, is Vietsovpetro’s largest project, so far. Its contractors were the Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group and Russian oil producer OAO Zarubezhneft.

In June 2015, the base of the BK Thiên Ưng was inaugurated and installed at the Thiên Ưng field. -- VNS
