HA NOI (VNS) — The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry DAFF) has opened their doors to Viet Nam's lychee fruit.

Australia is the second biggest market for Vietnam's lychee, only beaten by the demand of the US.

According to the Plant Protection Department (PPD) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), 2015 will be the first year Viet Nam exports fresh lychee to the US and Australia, helping to diversify the country's export markets.

The Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetables Association (Vinafruits) said this would be good news for Vietnam's fresh fruit industry, particularly since lychee, which is produced in specialized areas of Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Bac Giang provinces, are often stockpiled in peak season. — VNS
