Large-caps buoy southern bourse

HA NOI (VNS)— Large-cap stocks got stronger yesterday but were only able to push up the southern market.

On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN-Index went up 0.81 per cent to end at 565.77 points.

Of all stocks, 119 codes advanced, 85 declined and 102 ended flat.

Market liquidity extended losses. The trading volume fell to 61.6 million shares while trading value ended almost flat at VND1.32 trillion (US$61.1 million).

The VN30 Index, tracking the 30 largest codes by market value and liquidity, improved by 0.57 per cent to end at 596.1 points.

In this basket, the ratio of decliners and was three-quarters the number of advancers at 9 to 12, while 9 remained unchanged.

Among large-cap shares, Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) reached its ceiling price at VND63,000 by gaining 6.78 per cent, while Viet Thang Feed JSC (VTF) was down to its floor price at VND27,900, losing 7 per cent.

HCM City Infrastructure Investment JSC (CII) remained the most active code with more than 5.4 million shares traded, but its value fell to VND21,100.

Bank and gas codes posted mixed performances.

Among bank codes, only Eximbank (EIB) went down 1.54 per cent. Vietcombank (VCB), the Bank for Investment and Development (BID) and Sacombank (STB) gained between 0.54 and 3.53 per cent.

Of all gas stocks, PetroVietnam Gas JSC (GAS), Petrovietnam Drilling & Well Service Corporation (PVD) and Petroleum Equipment Assembly And Metal Structure JSC (PXS) gained between 1.78 and 3.24 per cent.

Ha Noi slumps

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index decreased by 0.08 per cent to close at 82.58 points. The northern bourses saw 100 gainers, 87 losers and 178 flat stocks.

Market liquidity improved slightly over the previous session with more than 43 million shares worth VND544 billion ($25.2 million) traded, up 2.14 per cent.

The HNX30 Index gained 0.39 per cent to close at 157.81 points. This basket had 11 gainers, seven decliners and twelve flat stocks.

On the northern bourse, large-cap gas codes got stronger and became the main force in helping the market avoid further losses. Petroleum Drilling Mud Corporation (PVC) and Petroleum Technical Services Corporation (PVS) surged by 2.56 and 2.32 per cent, respectively.

PetroVietnam Northern Gas JSC (PVG) added 9.2 per cent in market value to reach the ceiling price at VND9,500.

KLF Joint Venture Global Investment JSC (KLF) was the most active code on the northern bourse with 8.8 million shares being traded, but its value fell by 1.11 per cent to VND8,900.

From May 4, the HNX30 basket will change. Bao Thu Development and Investment JSC (BII) and C.E.O Investment JSC (CEO) will be added, while Song Hong Construction JSC (ICG) and HUDLAND Real Estate Investment and Development JSC (HLD) will be removed.

Foreign investors ended yesterday session as net sellers on HCM market with a net selling value of VND48 billion ($2.2 million) and remained as net buyers in Ha Noi, posting a net purchase value of VND31 billion ($1.4 million). — VNS
