HA NOI (VNS) — Blue chips yesterday had a mixed performance, resulting in an improvement on the southern market and a decline on the northern market.
On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN-Index advanced 0.05 per cent to end at 562.51 points.
The market was mixed with 85 gainers, 102 decliners and 121 stocks remained flat.
Market trading volume fell fell 7 per cent to 91.6 million shares worth VND1.52 trillion (US$70.7 million), a decrease of 7.9 per cent.
The VN30 Index, tracking the 30 largest codes by market value and liquidity, surged 0.06 per cent to end at 594 points.
This basket was mixed with advancing stocks nearly equalising the number of losers by 12 to 14 - and four remained flat.
Duc Long Gia Lai Group JSC (DLG) yesterday was the most active code on the southern market with more than 10.4 million of its shares being traded. It also rose by 6.3 per cent to reach the ceiling price of VND10,100.
HCM City Infrastructure Investment JSC (CII) gained 5.96 per cent to reach VND23,100 and traded nearly 5.7 million shares. The improvement of CII was made as the company had recorded positive results in the first quarter of this year.
Other blue chips such as Petrovietnam Drilling & Well Service Corporation (PVD), Hoa Sen Group (HSG) and Ma San Group (MSN) also contributed to the improvement of the market with an increase of 1.83 per cent, 3.49 per cent and 0.62 per cent, respectively.
Bank stocks had a mixed performance. Only Vietcombank (VCB) and Eximbank (EIB) gained by 0.81 and 1.56 per cent, respectively. The others dropped by between 1.06 and 2.24 per cent.
On contrary, on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell 0.26 per cent to finish at 82.89 points. The northern market was also mixed with 79 advancing stocks, 105 losing ones and 181 flat stocks.
The market's trading volume was lower than Tuesday as more than 37 million shares were traded worth VND457.5 billion ($21 million), two-thirds the volume of the day before.
The HNX30 Index lost 0.36 per cent to stand at 157.53 points. In this basket, only six stocks advanced, 15 declined and nine stayed unchanged.
Some blue chips gained higher value, but were unable to drag the market up. Vietnam Construction and Import-Export JSC (VCG) and the Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) rose by 0.79 and 1.23 per cent, respectively.
KLF Joint Venture Global Investment JSC (KLF) was the most active code on the northern market with 11 million of its shares being traded. However, it dropped by 5.26 per cent to VND9,500.
Foreign investors remained as net buyers, totalling a net buying value of VND163.8 billion ($7.58 million) on both markets. — VNS
