TIEN GIANG (VNS) — Exports from the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang reached nearly US$245 million in the first two months of 2015 or 15.3 per cent of the yearly target.
The province exported goods worth $112 million in February alone, a year-on-year increase of 15.8 per cent, according to the province's Department of Industry and Trade.
Ngo Van Tuan, director of the department, said key export commodities included processed seafood, garments, leather shoes and bags, all earning high export turnovers.
Tuan attributed the achievements to the province's programme to boost export and local business efforts. He said the province will continue to encourage businesses to diversify their export products, efficiently implement e-commerce programmes and provide information to firms in a timely manner.
During the first two months, Tien Giang shipped abroad nearly 28,000 tonnes of processed seafood worth over $61 million; 11.5 million garment products worth $55.2 million; and 4 million pairs of shoes worth $51 million.
This year, the province aims for $1.6 billion in export turnover, up 14.3 per cent compared to 2014. — VNS
