HCM CITY (VNS) — The Tan Cang Sai Gon Corporation opened the Tan Cang-Hiep Phuoc Port in Nha Be District, HCM City on Monday by welcoming its first cargo ship.

The event marked the firm's sustainable development strategy for port, logistics and maritime transport services.

Tran Hoai Nam, director of the Tan Cang-Hiep Phuoc JSC, a subsidiary of the Tan Cang Sai Gon Corporation, said the port on the Soai Rap River would make it easier for goods to be transported between Asian countries.

After 11 months of construction, the first phase of the VND1 trillion (US$47 million) project has gone into operation, including a 300m wharf capable of handling vessels up to 50,000 DWT.

The second phase of the project is expected to be completed next June. — VNS

Once fully operational, the port will serve as a transit hub for southern and western areas in HCM City and the Mekong Delta, helping to reduce the burden on Cat Lai Port. — VNS
