Viet Nam aims to be in top five tax nations

Update: December, 01/2012 - 09:25

HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam will strive to be named in the top five countries in Southeast Asia for tax facilitation by 2015 and the top four by 2020.

The ambition was revealed by Bui Van Nam, General Director of the General Department of Taxation, at a press conference to launch the Declaration of the Taxation Sector in Ha Noi on Thursday.

The country is currently ranked 138th in the world and 9th in Southeast Asia in terms of tax facilitation, according to the 2013 Doing Business Report, jointly issued by the World Bank and the International Financial Corporation (IFC).

Performance in the rankings will be one of the important indicators of whether the Declaration is successfully implemented, Nam said.

To reach this goal, the sector has made great efforts in reforming administrative procedures to facilitate taxpayers, Nam said, adding that it has simplified more than 350 tax administative procedures at all levels.

The sector is renovating its management methods to gradually align with international practices on tax policies, as well as speeding up tax declarations via the Internet.-VNS
