HA NOI (VNS)— Smart Companion, an application by a group of students from FPT University, is now available in the App Store.
This application translates text such as signboards, announcements, restaurant menus, etc. using the device's built-in camera.
The application relies on an open source OCR engine named Tesseract. At present, this application works with 32 languages.
The project kicked off in April 2012 and the app was first introduced in early August. It can translate text very accurately within several seconds.
The application was sent to the App Store on August 18 and it was officially offered in the App Store from August 29.
Accordingly, if each user pays $1 for the application, the application developer will receive $0.7 of the copyright fee.
They also planned to upgrade the application for Windows Phone and Android.-VNS
