HA NOI — The Ministry of Finance has issued a new circular stipulating a road fee for the HCM City – Trung Luong Highway in which the maximum charge for a container truck may reach VND320,000 (US$15).
The new circular, which will take effect on February 25, specifies the fee depends on the actual mileage and the type of vehicles.
The 40-km highway links HCM City with Tien Giang and other provinces in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta. This is a part of the HCM City-Can Tho Highway route.
While cars under 12 seats, trucks under 2 tonnes and public buses will pay VND1,000 per km as the lowest toll, trucks of more than 18 tonnes and container trucks will pay the highest with VND8,000 per km they travel.

According to the Ministry of Finance, as much as 7 per cent of the fees collected will be used to maintain the highway, while the rest will be located to the state budget.
HCM City – Trung Luong, opened in February 2010, is one of the most modern highways in Viet Nam with eight lanes and allows a speed limit of 120km per hour.
Only vehicles driving over 70km per hour are permitted on the expressway. Slow vehicles and trucks more than 4.2m high and wider than 2.8m are prohibited.
