NGHE AN — National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung attended a business and investors conference in the central province of Nghe An yesterday, the fourth of its kind held in the native land of President Ho Chi Minh.
Nearly 400 businesses and investors from throughout the nation participated in the conference to show their strong determination to invest in, and expand investment in, projects in Nghe An Province.
Speaking at the event, the NA Chairman stated that the Party and State had defined the Socio-economic Development Plan for 2011-2020 and the Socio-economic Development Strategy for 2011-2020, considering them important foundations for turning Viet Nam into an industrialised country by 2020.
To achieve that goal, localities and the business community should incessantly renovate their way of thinking in a rapid and sustainable direction on the basis of a socialist-oriented market economy, he said.
In addition, they needed to boost reforms of management mechanisms and national administration in order to take full advantage of abundant human resources among all people to create a momentum for the country's development, he added.
"This task requires reform not only among cadres and civil servants in charge of State management but also in the business circle and the entire society," Hung stressed.
According to Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Ho Duc Phuoc, since the first conference in 2009, more than 30 investment agreements worth nearly VND40 trillion (US$2 billion) had been signed and implemented on schedule in Nghe An Province.
Many social welfare projects had proven effective, helping to reduce poverty and improve the living standards for local residents, he said.
On the occasion, NA Chairman Hung offered flowers and incense at the Temple of Emperor Quang Trung and the Monument to President Ho Chi Minh in Vinh City.
Ha Tinh visit
Earlier on Saturday, Hung paid a visit to the central province of Ha Tinh where he encouraged local authorities and people to boost production at the beginning of the lunar new year.
He said he was delighted with Ha Tinh Provinces socio-economic achievements in 2011.
He expressed his belief that the Party committee, authorities and people of Ha Tinh would fulfil its development targets for 2012 to create an impetus for the province's five-year socio-economic development plan (2011-2015) . — VNS
