The Prime Minister has recognised two communes in the southernmost Cà Mau as island communes.

Tân Ân commune in Ngọc Hiển District and Khánh Bình Tây commune in Trần Văn Thời District are now island communes.

Tân Ân commune with a total area of 6,654 hectares has a population of 4,640. The Khánh Bình Tây commune with a total area of 5,063 hectares has a population of 13,296.

Coach, taxi operators cut fares

Fifty-eight coach operators at Miền Tây Coach Station in HCM City have cut coach fares by 1.5-9 per cent, said Nguyễn Minh Tiến, head of the station’s operation department.

The station had a total of 120 enterprises registered for operation, Tiến said.

A total of 120 coach operators at Miền Đông Coach Station said they would cut coach fares by 3-5 per cent, said Thượng Thanh Hải, deputy director of the station.

Miền Đông Coach Station has 217 enterprises registered for operation.

Eighteen taxi operators in the city also cut fares by VNĐ1,000 per kilometre, according to HCM City Taxi Association.

200 private medical clinics suspended operation, revoked licenses  

Health authorities fined 1,120 private medical clinics a total of VNĐ14 billion (622,000) in the first nine months of the year, according to Lương Ngọc Khuê, head of the Ministry of Health’s Medical Examination and Treatment Department.

A total of 106 medical clinics suspended operation and more than 100 clinics had their licences revoked, Khuê said.

Health inspectors checked a total of 6,300 private medical facilities across the country over the period.

In HCM City, the Department of Health fined nearly 140 medical facilities a total of VNĐ1.7 billion (US$75,500).

Centre for Education Accreditation-Đà Nẵng University opens

The Ministry of Education and Training has granted an operation license for the Centre for Education Accreditation at Đà Nẵng University.

This is the fourth centre for education accreditation in the country that offers accreditation for institutions, universities, colleges and vocational schools.

Bùi Văn Ga, deputy minister of education and training said that education accreditation is a compulsory requirement to rank education establishments across the country.

Education establishments have to publicise the quality of their education programmes, Ga said.
