City to issue international driving licences

The HCM City Department of Transport has begun to issue international driving licences from today enabling Vietnamese citizens to drive in 73 countries.

Vietnamese or expats with permanent residency can get their licences upgraded by calling 08 1081 and registering.

Foreign arrivals up 20 per cent from last year

The General Statistics Office of Viet Nam announced that the number of international arrivals in February is estimated to reach 833,600, a rise of 3.5 per cent from last month and 20 per cent year-on-year.

The country has welcomed around 1.6 million international visitors in the first two months, up 16 per cent year-on-year.

Revenues from tourism in the period grew an estimated 19 per cent to VND80.68 trillion.

City registers Japanese ODA projects

The HCM City People's Committee has registered with the Ministry of Planning and Investment a list of eight projects that are expected to use Japanese ODA loans in 2016-18.

They include construction of Ben Thanh Station, the first and second phases of metro route No 3a, route No 3b, the An Phu Intersection connecting Dong Tay and the HCMC – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway, 2nd monorail, sky-road No 5, and third phase of the HCM City Water Environment Improvement Project.

The committee has also petitioned the ministry for more funds for the second phase of the HCM City Water Environment Improvement Project.
