The HCM City People's Committee has instructed inspectors to check the implementation of the project to build Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre in District 1.
Under a design approved by the city's Department of Construction, the capital originally allocated was only VND60 billion ($2.7 million), but during construction, the design and facilities had to be adjusted, causing the construction costs to go up to VND132 billion (US$5.9 million).
Although the theatre was completed in April 30, it still has not opened as complaints have been filed by experts.

Da Lat plants more than 1,000ha of flowers
Flower villages in Da Lat in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong have planted 1,000ha of flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year), according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The growing area for the main flower under cultivation, Ly Ly flowers, will be expanded by 30ha.
Nguyen Van Son, the department's deputy head, said that agencies had advised farmers to co-operate with companies and wholesale markets before cultivation.

Fish farmers sue polluting seafood firms
Farmers who raise fish in cages in Cha Va River have seen losses of VND18 billion ($800,000) due to pollution caused by 14 seafood processing enterprises, according to Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The department has asked enterprises to compensate but they have not agreed.
The farmers are completing procedures to sue the enterprises.

Domestic consumption of cement rises 9.5%
Total cement consumption reached nearly 72 million tonnes last year, according to the Department of Construction Materials. The country has 76 production lines of cement with capacity of 81.56 million tonnes per year. Domestic consumption increased by 9.5 per cent compared to 2014, but exports fell to 19 per cent.
