Thirty three teachers were honoured with the Vo Truong Toan Award presented by the HCM City's Department of Education and Training on Teachers' Day, November 20. Most of the teachers are from rural districts who have overcome difficulties to offer training to poor students. They were selected from 70,000 teachers from primary and secondary schools across the city. Begun in 1997, the awards have been given to 540 teachers.

Can Tho offers job training for rural workers
The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta City of Can Tho has offered free or low-fee vocational training for more than 37,600 rural labourers this year, reaching 94 per cent of the year's target, according to the city's People's Committee. Around 40,000 people, mostly youth from poor households and ethnic minority groups, will be trained at local vocational centres.

LED technology to be developed
The Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology and the United Nations Development Programme Office in Viet Nam have launched a US$8 million project to develop LED (light-emitting diode) lighting technology in the country.
The four-year project aims at reducing carbon dioxide emissions and save energy. It includes technology transfer for producing domestic LED lights and pilot production.
