Sai Gon Newport Corporation inaugurated the first phase of Tan Cang – Thot Not port on Thursday in the southern city of Can Tho.
The port has a 75m-long wharf which can berth ships weighing up to 2,000 DWT, a 90m-long barge dock which can receive barges weighing up to 1,000 tonnes, and a 1.1ha storage space.
Tan Cang – Thot Not port is an important part of the corporation's shipping system in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta region.

Quang Tri to build economic zone
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a plan to build an economic zone in the central province of Quang Tri, according to the provincial People's Committee on Thursday.
The 23,792ha economic zone encompasses 17 communes and towns of Trieu Phong, Hai Lang and Gio Linh districts.
The economic zone is expected to have functional areas like an industrial park, administrative centre, residential areas, tourist areas, service areas and ports.

Ca Mau targets $7.5b in exports by 2020
The southernmost province of Ca Mau has set a target to achieve total export revenue of US$7.5 billion by 2020, according to the provincial People's Committee.
To realise its target, the province will focus on purchasing modern equipment and expand design capacity to improve production and business efficiency of seafood processing plants among other tasks.

Counterfeit goods continue to flood HCM City
Market watch agencies in HCM City discovered 9,062 violations related to fake and smuggled goods in the first 10 months of the year.
Authorities have destroyed millions of counterfeit items worth VND13 billion (US$578,000), a year-on-year increase of 38 per cent, and collected fines of VND78 billion ($3.47 million).
The production and distribution of counterfeit goods, and smuggling and trade fraud activities, usually increases at the end of the year, according to the HCM City Market Watch Department. It will step up inspections of shops selling beverages, beer, wine, foodstuff and other products in all districts.
