The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Hau Giang will spend more than VND48 billion (US$2.1 million) from the State and provincial budgets to build and repair houses for 1,720 families of martyrs and contributors to the revolution, according to Dong Van Thanh, deputy chairman of the provincial People's Committee.
The families will receive between VND20 million ($900) and VND40 million ($1,800) each to use for construction.

Hand-foot-mouth disease on a rapid rise
Hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) has increased rapidly with dozens of cases per week in Hau Giang Province, according to the province's Department of Health. So far this year, 480 cases have been reported. The number of HFMD cases is increasing mostly in Phung Hiep District and Nga Bay Commune.

Conference held to discuss energy future
Viet Nam needs to increase the use of renewable energy resources and push power trading with Asian countries to meet its demand, which will rise by 7-10 per cent annually to 2030, speakers said at a conference on electricity development held on Wednesday in Da Nang.
Since 1990, the rate of Vietnamese supplied with electricity has risen from 14 per cent to 98 per cent. There are 74 operational hydropower plants nationwide with combined capacity of more than 14,000MW.
