In 2016 pensions will be increased by around 8 per cent, meaning an additional outgo of VND1.5 trillion (US$68 million) for the Government a year, the Ministry of Finance's State Budget Department has announced.
The recommendation will be made to the National Assembly by the Government.

HCMC wastes $900m annually due to traffic
Transport infrastructure in HCM City is very poor because the space available for the movement of vehicles is only 7 – 9 per cent of the city area, far below the normal level of 20 – 25 per cent.
As a result, the city has 60 severe traffic jams every day that cost VND8.5 trillion ($386 million) a year in terms of time and health, VND2.2 trillion ($100 million) due to accidents, VND5 trillion ($230 million) in energy use and another VND4 trillion ($180 million) due to wastage of land and bad investment, according to a recent study by Dr Pham Xuan Mai, dean of the Politechnique University's Automobile Faculty.

State firms top paymasters
Workers at State-owned enterprises get the highest average salary in the country of VND6.15 million ($280) a month, followed by those at foreign invested companies (VND5.1 million or $230).
The lowest salary is in co-operatives (VND2.84 million, $125), according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and General Department of Statistics.
In the second quarter of this year 103,000 jobs were created and the jobless proportion decreased slightly. However, while the ratio declined from 2.45 per cent to 2.34 per cent for woman, it rose from 2.42 per cent to 2.48 per cent for men.

11,000 criminal gangs wiped out in HCM City
In the past five years the HCM City Police have arrested nearly 30,000 criminals, solved nearly 20,000 crimes, busted over 11,000 gangs, and retrieved VND54 billion ($2.4 million) in stolen assets.
They got 150,000 tip-offs from local residents by phone, with half of them proving useful.
