HCM City attracts $3b in foreign investment

HCM City attracted $3.07 billion of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 10 months of the year, or 104.5 per cent of the total FDI in the same period last year, according to the city's Department of Planning and Investment.

This figure includes 456 new projects (or 139.45 per cent compared to the same period last year) with total capital of $2.42 billion and 118 projects that have added capital of $642.85 million.


HCM City, Netherlands boost agricultural ties

Vice chairwoman of the HCM City's People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hong on Thursday met the Dutch Vice Minister for Agriculture Hans Hoogeveen to discuss ways to enhance agricultural cooperation.

Hong said the city hoped to receive further support from the Netherlands and proposed that both sides focus on major agricultural projects related to export support, post-harvest activities and personnel training.


HCM City revenue to reach $11.6b this year

HCM City this year is expected to collect more than VND260 trillion (US$11.6 billion) in revenue, an increase of VND4 trillion ($178.5 million) compared with initial estimates the city's People's Committee reported on Thursday.

From the beginning of this year, the city has collected VND226 trillion ($10 billion), accounting for 85.2 per cent of this year's target.


Mental health institute to open in Bien Hoa

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has decided to establish the Bien Hoa Central Institute of Forensic Mental Health in Dong Nai Province's Bien Hoa City.

According to the Ministry of Health, the demand for forensic mental health services in the 32 southern provinces and cities is double that of the 31 northern provinces and cities.

The institute would work with southern judicial agencies.


Businesses in Phu Tho owe social insurance

More than 600 businesses in the northern province of Phu Tho owe social insurance worth more than VND228 billion ($10.21 million). Most of the enterprises have evaded paying social insurance premiums for more than six months, according to Phu Tho Social Insurance.

Phu Tho Social Insurance has sued 11 companies that owe social insurance premiums, including Song Hong Thang Long Joint-Stock Company owing social insurance premiums valued at VND2.7 billion ($120,987), ACE Ltd Company VND4 billion ($179,240), Huu Nghi Cement Joint Stock Company VND6.1 billion ($273,341), and TEXMART-VINA Ltd Company VND1.1 billion ($49,291).
