Khanh Hoa needs $267m for reservoirs

The Khanh Hoa Province Department of Agriculture and Rural Development estimates it needs VND6 trillion (US$267 million) to upgrade all reservoirs that were built more than 30 years ago. Many have deteriorated badly and pose a threat in the rainy season.

Job creation rises in first nine months

More than 1.2 million jobs were created in the first nine months of this year, according to Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan. The number represents a 3.7 per cent increase year-on-year and 76.1 per cent of the full-year target.

The number includes 90,500 overseas jobs. More than 1.6 million people are expected to get jobs in this year, a 1.1 per cent increase compared to last year's same period.

Insurance programme covers rice, cattle

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has approved the continuation of a pilot programme to insure rice crops and cattle, according to the Ministry of Finance.

However, an existing programme for shrimp and fish farming is set to stop after three years during which more than 305,000 policies were sold, the premium was VND394 billion ($17 million) and claims worth VND712 billion ($32 million) were made.

Vinh Long opens two modern hospitals

The Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long opened a Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital and a Psychiatry Hospital in Long Ho District's Thanh Duc Commune last Sunday.

The former cost more than VND116 billion ($5.1 million), and the latter, VND94 billion ($4.1 million).

Both hospitals have 100 beds and modern equipment.

Tran Van Ut, director of the province Department of Health, said they would help ease the load on other hospitals and provide modern medical services.
