A conference on developing agricultural products in the Cuu Long (Mekong) River Delta region was held in Kien Giang Province on Wednesday by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. New methods on cultivation and productivity were discussed. Projects to upgrade the dyke and irrigation systems, and electricity networks, were also featured.
Local authorities aim to expand the rice-shrimp farming area to 200,000 hectares, with productivity of 120,000 tonnes by 2020.

Full-Moon Festival held for disadvantaged
Several hundred disadvantaged children living in remote areas in the country will take part in a Full Moon Festival organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Party, in co-operation with its partners, on Saturday in Ha Noi.
The kids will take free tours around H Noi's cultural and historical sites. They will also join music and song programmes and traditional games staged by the Party volunteers. They will also receive gifts and mooncakes. In addition, at least 100 students with good marks at school will receive scholarships worth VND3 million (US$140) each.

Lam Dong offers tours of Flower Festival
The Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) province of Lam Dong will launch four new tours during the annual Da Lat Flower Festival in December. Tourists will be taken to see old architecture and historic sites in Da Lat, one of the country's most attractive destinations.
This year, the sixth Da Lat Flower Festival will include cultural and community activities to highlight the beauty of Da Lat's culture.

Quang Ngai gets aquaculture investments
The central coastal province of Quang Ngai has attracted 13 investment projects on aquaculture development with capital of VND2.56 trillion (US$110 million) this year, according to the province's People's Committee. The projects focus on shipbuilding and logistics services.
Local authorities will work with the Sate Bank to offer low-interest loans to support fishermen.

Dong Nai's largest wharf starts operation
Dong Nai Province's largest 30,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) wharf started operation on Wednesday at Go Dau Port in Long Thanh District. The wharf is 250 metres in length and costs VND200 billion (US$9.5 million). The Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company is the main investor. The wharf will serve enterprises in Go Dau and neighbouring industrial parks, with a total capacity of 4.4 million tonnes of cargo a year.
