US slaps anti-dumping tax on VN catfish

The US's Department of Commerce has released its 11th judgment on anti-dumping taxes on Vietnamese catfish at rates ranging from 36-84 cents per kilogramme on 18 Vietnamese enterprises.

The Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said at a 60 cent rate of tax, Vietnamese exporters find it hard to sell catfish to the US, but this is only a temporarily judgement and the Vietnamese side has time to reply.

Viet Nam pays $1b in foreign debt

The Ministry of Finance's External Finance and Debt Management Department announced that the country has already paid nearly $1 billion worth of foreign debts this year.

Thirty two foreign agreements to borrow $3.16 billion were signed this year as of the end of August.

Bribery makes Binh Phuoc less competitive

"Unofficial" expenses and bribery have increased significantly and caused Binh Phuoc Province to slide three places in the competitiveness index to 38th out of 63 provinces.

Around 73 per cent of enterprises admitted to routinely paying for "unofficial" expenses and 66 per cent of them said officials asked for bribes.

In 2013 the bribery figure was only around 25 per cent.
