City to relocate six polluting companies

The HCM City People's Committee has assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Police and People's Committees in districts of 8, 9, Tan Phu, Thu Duc and Binh Thanh to conduct unscheduled inspections at six companies on environmental protection regulations.

The six companies are Viet Huong Hai Fishsauce, Sai Gon Textile, Petrolimex Trading and Shipbuilding, Binh Trieu Shipbuilding, Gia Dinh Phong Phu Textile and Garment, and Thang Long Paper and Packaging.

The municipal People's Committee has required the companies to implement measures to solve pollution and set up plans to relocate their companies. The relocation must be completed by the end of this year.

Transgender people appeal for new rights

Nearly 600 people who have undergone gender transformation have petitioned to change legal identity documents to their new gender, a representative of the Ministry of Health's Mother and Children Health Department said on Tuesday.

Current regulations do not allow changing legal identity documents for transgender people.

The Ministry has proposed to add the regulation of allowing the change of legal identity documents for transgender people in the draft Civil Law.

Whitmore's disease reappears in Viet Nam

Whitmore's disease, which occurred in Viet Nam for dozens of years ago, has reappeared in Viet Nam recently, Nguyen Van Kinh, director of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, said on Tuesday.

The hospital has received five patients aged one to 15 who were admitted into the hospital with severe symptoms and septicaemia.

People who infect the disease have several symptoms, including high fever, muscle pain and lung inflammation. The disease, caused by a bacteria called Burkholderis pseudomallei found in soil, can spread between humans.
